Recommendation for "multiple identity verification" to prevent fraud

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Computer Engineering Cyber Security Department Head Prof. Dr. Güzin Ulutaş said that protection methods against threats in the virtual environment may vary.
Ulutaş pointed out the importance of creating social awareness against attacks such as phishing, and noted that with the development of technology in recent years, internet use has also become widespread.
Ulutaş stated that many attacks can occur in cyberspace, the most common of which are attack attacks, and emphasized that fake videos produced with artificial intelligence methods have been encountered very frequently recently.
Ulutaş, who stated that different voices and images can be created with artificial intelligence, said , "One day you get a phone call and they seem to be calling from the bank, but in fact, someone using the same voice as a bank representative may be talking to you."
Ulutaş stated that it is very difficult for people to realize that they have been scammed by fake voice calls, and continued as follows:
"It is also important for social media users to keep their accounts private because many users can keep their accounts open and use their own personal videos or photos. The videos and photos can then be used to produce fake videos with artificial intelligence. It is currently among the most used attacks that can have negative effects on people," he said.
Prof. Dr. Ulutaş, drawing attention to the need for multiple identity verification in banking and similar applications on mobile phones against fraud, said, "The most important reason is that even if your password is cracked, the person needs to know and enter the message sent to your mobile phone in order to hack into your account. Considering that your password can be cracked, I definitely recommend that you enable multiple identity verification strategies."
Ulutaş, who mentioned that the Trabzon Police Department has informative activities for public institutions and students within the scope of the SİBERAY Project, said, "These trainings are especially important for end users who do not have much information about security problems that may occur in cyberspace. I think it will create significant awareness for the public."
Police officer İlhan Tozluyurt, who is on duty at the Cyber Crimes Department of the Provincial Police Department, stated that fraud has become a reality on the internet and that people should accept this.
''WE HAVE REACHED 80 THOUSAND PEOPLE SINCE 2017''Tozluyurt, drawing attention to the fact that virtual fraud is not only experienced in Trabzon but also all over the world, said, "There is no limit to internet crimes. We cannot just say Trabzon, the Black Sea or Turkey because the perpetrator of an incident may also come from abroad."
Stating that they have been continuing their anti-fraud information activities in Trabzon province and districts since 2017, Tozluyurt shared the information, "We have reached 80 thousand people since 2017."
Tozluyurt noted that 70 to 75 percent of the people who applied to the police due to fraud were found guilty.
TRAINING WAS PROVIDED TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTSNisanur Topce, who attended the fraud training given by the Provincial Police Department at the KTÜ Science Faculty Nazım Terzioğlu Amphitheatre, said that she gained very useful information from the presentation and said, "My father experienced fraud, similar things were told. We were informed, if it had happened earlier, maybe my father would not have experienced such a thing."
Furkan Erağca also reminded that he had also been defrauded via social media in the past and said that he would be more careful after the training.
